Ayurvedic Healing

Ayurveda is a holistic healing science which originated in India over 5,000 years ago, and is the sister science to yoga. The mind, body, and spirit are all considered in order to create the most optimal environment for healing to take place. Ayurveda includes but is not limited to nutrition, herbal medicine, daily routine, hygiene, and body therapies. Whether you are looking to clean up your lifestyle, have mild symptoms, or more serious health concerns, Ayurveda is a powerful tool in your treatment program.

Through Ayurveda, Nadia Miller-Goymer offers personalized lifestyle and treatment programs. The structure is as follows:

  • 1) The Initial Intake is 2 hours long: you will review your Health History, which you will complete and submit before the appointment. Then, Nadia will observe your physical characteristics, tongue, and pulse. This discussion will give the information required to determine your original nature and current imbalance.
  • 2) The Report of Findings is 1 hour long and takes place about a week after your initial intake. Here you will learn your original nature and current imbalance, receive your recommendations for herbal medicine, and your first lifestyle recommendation
  • The Initial intake and Report of findings are a bundle and cost 185 + GST for an in-person visit. (Sliding Scale pricing is available, and takes place over Zoom)
  • 3) Follow Up visits: one hour long, where symptoms are monitored and progress in implementing changes is supported. More lifestyle adjustments are implemented over time as the client becomes successful with previous recommendations. For the first 4 follow ups, it is required to meet weekly to ensure that the herbal medicine and lifestyle plan are on the right track and implemented safely. After that period we will determine together what meeting schedule is appropriate for you. On average, 8 follow up visits is adequate to implement a treatment program. Some people require more, some less depending on the severity of the imbalance.
Extra info about Ayurveda:
Through the framework of Ayurveda it is understood that each body is unique and requires a personalized plan to regain balance. You are seen to have two states, your original nature, and your current imbalance. Your original nature is considered to be the goal of treatment, and its constitution called Dosha is determined by traits and tendencies that do not change throughout your life, and your current imbalance, or current Dosha, is determined through your current symptoms and any variation away from your original nature. Ayurveda is powerful because the root cause of disease is treated, not just the symptom.
There are three Doshas which make up your original nature and your current imbalance. Each person has their own unique percentage each. I will briefly discuss them, but please know they are quite complex. Diseases and treatments are all understood under this framework.
Vata: described by the metaphor of Air and Ether, this constitution tends towards symptoms that are dry, like dry skin, and lightness, like light sleep or insomnia. Other examples of symptoms that are related to Air and Ether are gas, constipation, racing mind, anxiety, overwhelm, weight loss, dry cough, pain without injury (aches and pains), headaches, fatigue, cold body temperature, low blood pressure and more. Positive traits in people with in balance vata are creativity, enthusiasm, enjoyment of movement, travel, exploring, and expression. Physical traits are long, light, thin, and tend towards dryness.
Pitta: described by the metaphor of Fire and Water, has to do with the body’s ability to digest food, the liver, small intestine, blood, intelligence, logic, and more. When out of balance there is internal inflammation, diarrhea, anger, criticism, resentment, burning symptoms, fevers, red inflamed acne, acidity, ulcers, and more. Some of the positive traits with in balance pitta are intelligence, focus, logic, organization, and passion. Physical traits are moderate and angular, and tend towards heat.
