Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage therapy is a light touch, holistic bodywork therapy where the therapist stimulates the flow of lymphatic circulation in the body. Using sensitive listening with his or her hands to assist the flow of lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic pathways, the therapist follows the body’s natural rhythm of lymphatic waves as the guide to hand movement.

Its main actions and benefits are:

  • Activates lymph function and circulation, indirectly activates blood circulation and re-absorption of fluid, and reduces edema (swelling) through these effects.

  • Stimulates the immune system

  • Calms the nervous system by decreasing the sympathetic response (fight or flight) and directly stimulates the parasympathetic response (calmer repair) thereby reducing pain, spasms, and assisting relaxation.
