Lucy Garbett

Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, Counselling Therapist, Certified Grief Processional

My name is Lucy Garbett and I am a Counselling Therapist, Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and Certified Grief Professional offering creative and somatic focused therapy to clients of all ages and walks of life. I offer clients a gentle, person-centered approach and support them in regulating their nervous system, trauma and grief recovery, radical acceptance, mental health disorders, spiritual wellbeing, coping strategies, development of community support, and self efficacy.

In sessions, we can use a parts work, somatic therapy and of course talk therapy to begin a new type of communication between your brain and body to ensure that all aspects of your experience are being heard and expressed. We can develop this communication through metaphor, experiencing and working with sensation, conversation, art, movement, and genuinely anything that feels like it genuinely lands for you. In addition to this, I do also offer CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, grief therapy, amongst other modalities.

As a therapist, my focus is on seeing the whole person and involving every aspect of who you are to ensure that you are supported in the process of getting to better know yourself and discover your capability for managing the hardships in life. I also do offer specific support for members of the queer community, the chronic illness and specifically dysautonomia community, as well as performing artists.

I identify as genderfluid (she/they) and greysexual. I have lived my life closeted and only recently came out to myself and my community. I am sex-positive and kink/poly allied, which means that no matter who you are or where you live within the vast spectrum of sexuality and gender identity, I will meet you with joy, and without confusion. If you’re in the process of learning what your identity might me, it would be my honour and joy to join with you in your exploration and support you through every step.

I also live with chronic illness. While my medical journey is, as many are, complicated and still in its inception, I was born with POTS and a variety of symptoms congruent with dysautonomia. For the vast majority of my life, I have been in the dark about the fact that I was living with chronic illness. Being a musician, I pushed myself to the very limits of my capability and ended up in hospital on and off for the better part of a month. After pausing my career as a performing artist to explore a career in mental healthcare, it has become a priority to me that folks who may experience something similar, even if it isn’t quite the same, know that they have a therapist who is not only in their corner, but understands the complex nuances of living with illness, however that looks for you.

If you are curious about what sessions might look like for you, I offer free virtual consultations. Sessions can be in person or virtual – or even a mix of both if that is something you’d prefer. I can’t wait to meet you and hear your story. Know that there is always a way forward, and you don’t have to be alone in the journey. Let’s do it together.
